Just a heads-up if you’re driving around Saskatoon after New Year’s: starting January 1, 2026, the police are going to start asking for a quick breath test pretty much any time they pull you over. Doesn’t matter if you seem fine; if they’ve got the device handy, they’ll use it.
It’s something the rest of Saskatchewan (RCMP and Regina) has been doing for a while, based on that 2018 law change. The idea is simple: make it easier to catch impaired drivers and give everyone a nudge to think twice before driving after a drink.
A few lawyers have raised issues about privacy related issues, but honestly, most people seem okay with it if it keeps the roads safer. Bottom line is to plan your ride home ahead of time, and we’ll all have a better year. Safe driving out there and happy New Year!
