Saskatoon’s 51st and Millar intersection is officially on the hot seat. With 161 collisions over the past five years, the city has proposed a major redesign to fix its reputation as a “dangerous” spot. The plan includes adding sidewalks and blocking certain left-turn lanes into popular spots like McDonald’s and Wendy’s.
But as with any big change, opinions are split! Groups like NSBA are worried about local businesses, citing concerns over property access and how large delivery trucks will navigate tighter spaces. They’re questioning if the multi-pathway design is worth the heavy price tag. On the flip side, Saskatoon Cycles argues the area is currently “inhospitable” to anyone not in a car and hopes the update makes it safer for everyone.
For now, the project is on pause while the city chats with affected business owners. What do you think—safety upgrade or over-engineered headache?
