Saskatoon taxpayers, keep your eyes on City Hall! The Standing Policy Committee on Transportation just voted to move forward with a plan for protected bike lanes on Victoria Avenue, stretching from Taylor to Ruth Street. But before you grab your helmet (or your wallet), remember: this isn’t a “done deal” just yet.
While the committee gave the thumbs up, the proposal still needs a final vote from the full City Council later this month. As taxpayers, the numbers are definitely catching our eye. We’re looking at a $3.6 million construction price tag, and here’s the kicker, snow clearing costs for that stretch could jump from $38,000 to a whopping $225,000 a year! ❄️💸
Is this a vital investment in a modern, safe city, or an expensive “nice-to-have” during a budget crunch? With no confirmed provincial or federal funding yet, we’re essentially approving a plan with an empty piggy bank. Stay tuned for the final Council showdown at the end of March!
