Heads up, Saskatoon! Local authorities are issuing a fresh warning about a sophisticated phishing scam currently targeting residents via text message.
If you receive a text claiming you have an outstanding parking ticket and demanding immediate payment, do not click the link. The City of Saskatoon has officially confirmed that they do not use text messages, robocalls, or emails to notify residents of parking violations or to collect payments. These messages are fraudulent attempts to steal your personal and financial information.
How to Stay Protected:
-
Verify Official Sources: If you’re concerned about a legitimate fine, check your status directly on the City’s official website using your license plate or driver’s license number.
-
Never Share Data: Avoid providing credit card or banking details through unsolicited links or over the phone.
-
Report & Block: Delete the message and report the incident to the Saskatoon Police or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
If you believe you have already shared information with a suspicious source, contact your financial institution immediately to secure your accounts.
