For those Saskatoon travellers currently stuck in Mexico, the news is finally looking up. After a weekend of high-stakes unrest that saw the military take down cartel leader “El Mencho,” the path back to the Bridge City is clearing.
Major carriers, including Air Canada, WestJet, and Air Transat, are officially resuming operations to and from Puerto Vallarta. Canada’s Ambassador to Mexico, Cameron MacKay, noted that the region has entered a “period of stabilization,” offering hope for those waiting on rescheduled flights. However, a dose of reality remains: with Mexico’s Security Secretary confirming 25 National Guard troops were killed in the chaos, the journey home might feel a bit more somber. While authorities are advising people to avoid the country for now, for those already there, the priority is simple: get to the airport and get home.
