If you thought Saskatchewan was just flat land and wheat, your binoculars clearly aren’t in focus. The province is currently the hottest club in the world, but the bouncers are Great Gray Owls and the guest list is strictly avian. Birders are swarming the prairies to catch a glimpse of “celebrities” like the Whooping Crane who, frankly, has had a better comeback than most 90s boy bands. Then there’s the Sharp-tailed Grouse, which spends its mornings engaged in dance battles that would put TikTok to shame. From the Snowy Owl paparazzi to the rare sightings that have enthusiasts “flocking” from across the globe, it turns out the middle of nowhere is actually the center of everything. Just remember: in the world of birdwatching, the early bird gets the rare photo, and everyone else just gets a very scenic view of a field.
