Lately, the chatter around the water cooler (and the flight line) has been about more than just the roar of engines. It’s about whether our beloved Snowbirds should keep their wings.
The argument for grounding them usually boils down to the “Vintage Factor.” The CT-114 Tutors have been flying since the 1960s. Critics argue that pouring millions into maintaining museum-grade hardware during a cost-of-living crisis is a tough sell. Plus, with the 2026 budget focus on infrastructure, some say the money is better spent on the ground.
On the flip side, they are the ultimate “CanCon” success story. For many, seeing those red-and-white jets over the river is a vital piece of national pride. Is it a costly tradition? Sure. But in a world of digital noise, there’s still something irreplaceable about a 9-jet overhead break.
